Toward Autonomous Vehicles and Machinery in Mill Yards of the Forest Industry: Technologies and Proposals for Autonomous Vehicle Operations

The use of autonomous systems on the wood processing sites forest industries can significantly increase safety, productivity, and efficiency by reducing number monotonous dangerous tasks conducted human labor utilizing heavy machinery. However, machines are challenging difficult to implement in mill yards environment because dynamic complex working environment, partly unstructured processes. inherent complexity handling storage is requiring significant expertise. Fast advancements sensor technologies, machine learning techniques, increases computational power enable progress automated operation framework algorithms development. This opens door introduce novel into this environment.
